  • I stopped by a few flooring places in Vegas. I was told early on that any type of wood flooring (solid or engineered) is problematic in desert climates, requiring constant humidity control to prevent issues with the floor and subsequent warranty. I confirmed this on several hardwood flooring sites. I'm unwilling to waste energy to do this year-round, so I ruled it out. The LL sales person, however, claimed humidity wasn't an issue "b/c they had just installed a wood floor locally", that "engineered wood is as stable as laminate", and that "they could send a professional installer out to verify". Verify what? Sure they may be cheap, but they're also shady.
