| - I love this Meijer and have since I started going in 2008 - it's always clean in here which I really appreciate since some grocery stores in the area can't say as much. Yes, the layout in here is truly bizarre and doesn't make sense the first few times you walk in, but I got used to it though there is some walking involved if I forgot something and have to double back. There's also a map of the store located across from the cart area in the entrance closest to the pharmacy, if that helps.
First, the negatives:
- If you go in the afternoon or evenings on the weekends things will definitely look picked over and specifically in the produce section. I'm not sure why they don't restock these consistently since it can be really disappointing.
- Also, because this store is smaller there is a definite lack in variety of products compared to the Champaign Meijer and the other bigger stores and again, this reflects in the produce department.
- Tied to the point above, they choose to rearrange aisles at weirdly busy times, which means you may have trouble finding what you're looking for and there's no signs of where to find it instead before or after the move.
- I tend to use the self-checkout because it seems like at any given time, only 2-3 regular check out lanes will be open and they always have lines. I mean, c'mon, Meijer - common sense says that most people are going grocery shopping after work or on the weekend and it would be helpful to adjust accordingly.
And the plusses:
- Make sure you sign up for MPerks because there are some great deals on there when they fit your buying habits and you can get rewards at the pharmacy as well. There's also usually a gas discount every 1-2 months.
- If you're an early bird, this store is pretty empty from 7-9:30 am on Saturday and Sunday. This means you can get in and out fairly quickly. I also tend to find better produce at these times, or at least more options within each produce type.
- Since this Meijer is smaller and needs to move products out quickly in Housewares, you can usually find some great deals for things that aren't on clearance at the Champaign store.
- The MTD stops here, and it's fairly easy to get to from campus by bus or elsewhere from CU by car. Their parking lot is pretty expansive with exits to both Windsor and Philo.
I think the other reviews raise a lot of really good points and could and will be deal breakers for a lot of people. Since this store works for me, I'll keep coming here for one stop shopping.
