  • My husband & I have been patrons of Durrant's for nearly 40 years. The service has always been the best as well as the food. However, on this trip, while our server did his best, some of the food was a disappointment this time, except for the Oysters Rockefeller. The bread loaf was just too darn soggy from the olive oil. Our lettuce wedges were covered with unedible black charcoaled bacon bits. We ordered the shrimp scampi appetizer & got the full dinner plate of shrimp scampi linguini. The shrimp was way over-cooked & hard. The linguini was dripping with oil. What really got our goats was the fact that we ordered the shrimp scampi appetizer was less than $20, but the same shrimp w/linguini was $20 more. So, basically, we paid $20 for a dish of linguini that I could not eat because I'm gluten sensitive. We discussed the error with our witer & he insisted that's what we ordered. We tried to send it back & just get the shrimp alone, but there was no doing that. my husband chose not to make a scene & get our server in trouble for the screw up, because he was a nice man. He treated us to a free dessert. The other thing is that their prices have risen to the point of being ridiculously high, especially for being in a restaurant with a musty aroma from the old wall covering, booths, ceilings, & carpet. The restrooms are the worst. They are the tiniest, most uncomfortable public spaces we've ever been in. One has to nearly sit on the toilet to shut the stall door. They are not ADA accessible & the women's smells of sewer at times. This last visit will probably be one of our law visits. They are so proud of their continued operation based upon an old reputation that the idea of being called "nostalgic" is an understatement. The place is just really old & dirty feeling. The high food prices do NOT reflect the quality & quantity of the food, & especially the musty outdated ambiance.
