| - Let me start by saying, I once worked for Honor Health back when they were Scottsdale Healthcare. In addition to that, I had my son at HonorHealth Shea. LOVED my nurses, loved the staff both as an employee and a patient. So naturally, when my son had what seemed to be a RAGING ear infection, I sought out HonorHealth again because of my great experiences previously.
I was SEVERELY disappointed and actually embarrassed after my experience at their immediate care facility. First, I had to fill out a ton of paperwork that had little to no relevance to what we were there to be seen about. But whatever. The woman at the front desk took about 20 minutes to charge my debit card. Not because there was an issue with the machine... but because she held onto my card for 20 minutes and never handed it back to me while she answered the phone and entered other information into her computer.
We were called back before I had the opportunity to finish the mountain of useless information they wanted and was told to bring it back with me and complete it during the appointment. Sure, I'll get that done with a two year old screaming and crying. Okay... I was just happy to get my kid back to see a doctor. Nope... got a weird medical assistant who asked me the same question about 7 times. "When did the discharge start?", "Wednesday". "And he has tubes in his ears?" "Yes." "Okay so when did the discharge start then?" In addition to that when he looked at my son and saw blood coming from his ear he proceeded to look at me with a look of shock and state, "There is blood". Well yes genius! That's why I'm here and I stated that to you when you asked me, "What can we do for him today".
I didn't finish the forms because I was too busy answering the same question 50 times. He never asked for the forms, never told me to complete them, didn't ask for a medical history (which was on the forms he never asked about). So the medical history is on the form. I never got to finish it before the appointment was over and the medical assistant never asked about anything. Then the nurse practitioner, McKenzie came in. Clearly unhappy to be there on a Sunday (I get it). Looked at his ears with a scope. Looked at me and said, I can't see much so I'm going to give him a script for an antibiotic. Didn't address the fact that my son was bleeding from his ear, didn't address what the antibiotic was for. It was like PULLING TEETH. I had to ask was the eardrum ruptured? "I don't know... I can't see it". Is the tube out? "I don't know... I can't see it". What do I need to look for to indicate that he has to go to the emergency room? "Fever... if the bleeding doesn't stop". EVERYTHING she should have offered to me in the form of information... I had to ask about. What is the script for? "Antibiotic for an ear infection." So its an infection and the antibiotics will clear it up. "It should. Follow up with your ENT."
Terrible front desk service. Awkward and horrible medical assistant and the saddest and unhelpful nurse I've ever encountered. I could've done EVERYTHING they did at home. They pride themselves on not charging an "URGENT CARE" fee and just charging a standard co-pay. Worst $40 I have ever spent in my life. Oh and that paperwork? I couldn't leave until it was complete. WHY!? His appointment is over and everything that you should've asked me about you didn't so what's the point!?
Just as a side note. We took him to his pediatrician first thing the next business day (today). They gave him an antibiotic shot to help clear the infection faster, a different prescription and drops for his ear to help it heal quicker and relieve his pain because that is what you should do with children with TUBES.
I'm never going back again.
