  • I'm writing a review of the physical therapy I've received at TOCA Tempe. I broke four bones in my foot in early November, and saw Dr. Johnsen at other TOCA locations. No surgery was needed; just rest and immobilization. In early January, two months after the bones were broken, I graduated out of the cast and out of the walking boot and into physical therapy. My physical therapist was Heather B. and she was fantastic! During the sessions, I mostly worked with her assistant Marcus to go through my exercise routines. Heather would take over at the end of the appointment for an assessment and foot rub (the footrub made it all worth it!!). Both Heather and Marcus were kind and patient throughout the experience, making my PT sessions as painless as possible. I noticed a huge difference between my first and last PT visit. Day 1, I couldn't even walk on my broken foot. By the end of my PT sessions, I could hop, balance on one foot, do calf raises, and all kinds of normal activities. I still haven't tried to run, but I'm not much of a runner anyway... you'll only catch me running in case of an emergency. My foot still hurts everyday, but Heather said it's normal and the pain will continue to decrease over time. It's been 5 months since I broke my foot. I'm very happy with the recovery I've made so far, and I know that the physical therapy I received here contributed significantly. I hope I won't ever need PT again, but if I do, I'll return to TOCA and (hopefully!) see Heather again. 5/5 stars!
