Just tried to bring in my dead Canon point-and-shoot for product service plan (extended warranty) replacement. I've had this camera for three years and I recycled the box and manuals a long time ago. The CSR said that I would need to provide all of the original packaging, and that I would be charged $20 for each missing manual (English and French) and $50 for each missing cable (USB and HDMI).
I've never heard of a company asking for the original packaging when requesting warranty replacement. Especially not for a discontinued product - it's all going to be thrown into the garbage! This is such a cynical cash-grab. For the "cost" of two cables and two manuals I could buy a brand-new camera.
Anyway, I took my camera to a different Future Shop and they did the replacement right away, without threatening to charge any fees. Looks like it's a special policy at the Empress Walk location.
