| - DO NOT EVER EVER EVER EVER GO HERE.... EVER!!!!!! I cannot emphasize enough how much you should never darken the door of this place. If I could give this place negative stars, I would. They are liars and cheats and they break your stuff. My son cracked the screen on his 1 1/2 year old laptop. In the process of troubleshooting, I could see (through the cracked screen lol that the laptop itself was still working. I bought a new screen and installed it (I have a degree in computer science, but alas, I don't know as much as I should about laptop hardware, but I felt comfortable changing the screen). Anyway, the new screen wouldn't work and I didn't have a lot of time to fool around with it. I dorked with it a little, confirmed that nothing was shorted out, motherboard still had power, etc.... So I took it to Laptop Xchange. They told me it would be $60 minimum, but if I got it repaired with them, then the $60 would go towards the repair. I agreed to this and left them the laptop. They said I would hear something in a couple of days, so five days later, when I hadn't heard anything, I called them. They claimed that they called me and left me a message, but I had no missed calls and no messages. The person I spoke to on the phone said that the motherboard was dead and there was nothing that they could do other than replace the motherboard for $500. I went down there and asked what steps had been taken with my laptop. I was told that they did an "extensive diagnostic that takes three or four days to run." and that the diagnostic had showed them that the motherboard had shorted out. That sounded odd to me for numerous reasons. First, I don't know of any diagnostics that takes three or four days to run. Second, from what I know of your garden variety desktop motherboard, if it is completely fried, you know this because you can't run any diagnostics because the motherboard is fried. Then the manager who was handling my issue said that they could give me store credit for $30 and I could buy one of their laptops. Which, by the way, are all WAY over priced and none of them were anywhere as new as mine. I have to admit, I was feeling VERY suspicious at this point. So, I asked the manager if I could talk to the tech who actually worked on the laptop and I also said they could keep their $60 and I would take back the laptop. The tech came out with a plastic bucket full of my laptop parts because he hadn't put it back together yet. I explained that when I brought it in, the motherboard appeared to be functioning, but that I was having a problem with the screen. The tech told me that I had spilled liquid on the keyboard and that had fried the motherboard. He then insinuated that I was either lying or stupid when I explained that I had been troubleshooting the issue before I brought it to them and I was fairly confident that it wasn't a motherboard problem ("Maybe you didn't see what you thought you saw on the screen" "If you didn't run the same diagnostics we did, you wouldn't know what was wrong with it" "It's hard to tell with laptops what is wrong with them if you don't know what you are doing" etc....). He then put it back together for me and I left. When I got home, I tried to power up the laptop just to see if I could do anymore troubleshooting with it. But you know what? I can't because it won't power on at all and now I don't get anything from the motherboard which is NOT the condition I gave it to them in. I have a strong suspicion that they saw an opportunity to make some money by telling me that my laptop was dead in the hopes that I would either a) just give it to them and not come back for it or b) take the $30 in store credit and buy one of their POS laptops for $400, leaving them with a laptop that they could fix and sell for more money than it is worth. But that is just a suspicion. Still, I say do not go here, I wouldn't trust it.
