| - We returned to Hugo's Cellar for my boyfriend's daughter's birthday and were VERY disappointed in their service! This is the first time I have ever had bad service. We sat for almost 25 minutes before we got offered anything to drink and then we had to flag down Greg, the gentleman who serves the salad, and ask him where our waiter was and if he could just take our order.
Our waiter did not even bother to stop by until our food was brought out and even then he did not apologize about not helping us and just tried to drop the food off and run away. Two of the steaks were cooked wrong, and of course one was the birthday girl's! This is one of the only steakhouses in town that cooks steak the way my boyfriend and his daughter like it and she had never been to a nice steakhouse before and we really wanted her to experience what Hugo's usually offers. They did offer to have the steaks fixed, but at this point we were all starving and wanted to eat together so they just kept them as they were.
Then all the waiters sang happy birthday to a big group at the front. Mind you, when I made the reservation I told the hostess that we were coming to celebrate a young girl's birthday and asked if there was anything they could do and I was told she would get dessert. Her birthday was not even acknowledged at all through out the whole dinner, not even when we were offered dessert! When this happened after we had watched another table get the full birthday treatment and his daughter felt kind of left out or not very special he got up and walked away from the table to so he did not get upset with the waiter. When the waiter asked if there was a problem I told him we are here for her birthday and wanted her to experience what we usually experience when we dine here and it has been anything but pleasant. He didn't even say sorry and just walked away!!!
In the meantime, three other tables that were in our waiter's area were being totally ignored and one of them had been seated before us and got their food long after us. I don't know if this waiter was new or what his deal was. But his rude manners and lack of concern for his customers has made my boyfriend not ever want to return again, which makes me very sad as this is my favorite steakhouse! I'm very disappointed in the service and how we were treated. The food is still wonderful as ever, but for the price I can go anywhere else in town, even Olive Garden, and get better service than we got.
