I joined a fellow Yelper for a free class on opening weekend and we both came away with similar opinions. Denise's review covers lots of important details, so check it out if you're new to Barre-style fitness. I didn't sweat as much as I expected; the pace of the class was so fast that I prioritized not falling on my face in lieu of following directions. They deliberately leave out modification details unless you ask for those specifically. I found this out AFTER the class, so I recommend you ask for those if you want to get the very most out of the class from the get go. Modifications are a feature of barre3 classes, and I think Pure Barre would feel a bit more welcoming to new students by providing modification options until they build up a regular clientele.
Since attending my first class here, I've received a follow-up email and a hand written thank-you postcard from the studio owners, who made a point of asking for honest feedback and addressed my comments with a personal email. I'm impressed by their commitment to customer service and can't help but wish them success, but I'm not sure I'm hardcore enough to come back here on a regular basis. After working through several injuries over the years, I tend to shy away from really fast-paced classes in favour of those that bring on the slow burn (and controlled movement).
I like that socks are worn for the workouts, but I recommend they add the mats into the class earlier for those trying to avoid carpet burn on our elbows. Other pros: the music is high energy and the instructor actually walks around and helps participants instead of leading the class through demonstration alone. I also like the variety of movements that incorporate the barre!
