| - I'd give this 3.5 stars if I could, because I have some mixed feelings. I'd visited Bloom in Middleton a few times and felt their cupcakes were good. Kind of small for the price, but good. I think they use quality ingredients, and hey, rent isn't cheap. Then I stumbled upon the new Monroe Street location on a Friday afternoon and was excited about the expanded pastries. Again, not cheap, but if employees get paid well and the location rent is high, I'm willing to pay $3-4 for a great pastry. And great they were! We shared a whoopie pie and a "poptart." Both were very good, and other options looked just as delicious. So at that point, I was at 4-5 stars. Staff was nice and the atmosphere was really inviting.
My recent breakfast experience wasn't as good as the previous visit, but I'm not giving up on their pastries!
Without giving you too many details, if you get there early for weekend breakfast, it's no problem. You can order quickly and sit to wait for your food. If you get there at prime time, you stand in line and then wait for tables to open, and getting your bottomless coffee refilled can be a challenge. I suggest getting there before 9:30 on a Saturday. We arrived at 9:10 and had a pastry/coffee while it was fairly quiet, then our friend arrived at 9:30 and we ordered entrees. It became an awkward situation because it was a lot busier by then and staff thought we were just reserving a table, implying that it wasn't okay that we sat down for pastries and coffee while we waited for our third person to arrive. I completely understand they have to try and manage with little seating on the weekends, but it was half empty when we arrived and we DID order food before sitting down. We just ordered in two courses.
Breakfast entrees were good. Biscuits and gravy were super flavorful. Southern biscuit sandwich was difficult to eat as a sandwich. I had to deconstruct it and use a knife and fork. It felt a little unbalanced with few fillings and a giant biscuit. I wouldn't get it again. Their really tall biscuits aren't really made for sandwiches. Better to just enjoy them with spreads, IMO. Daily special omelet was huge and lots of fresh veggies. Friend said the omelet and the bacon was good.
I probably won't return for weekend breakfast, as I have to REALLY, REALLY love the food to wait in line to order and then again for a table, but I'll continue to enjoy the pastries at other times of the day.
