| - My house was built in 1952, wood frame, stucco exterior, plaster interior, and like most houses of that time, totally uninsulated. In the rooms I remodeled, new fiberglass insulation was installed but as for the rest of the house there was no viable option for insulating the exterior walls. For several years I searched, on and off the Internet, for someone who could inject insulation into the wall but with no luck until I found RetroFoam.
My experience was vastly different from most of the other reviews. I called and the salesman came out within a couple of days, on-time and ready to go. First he did some thermal imaging, showing where the heat was entering between the studs and fire-blocking. Then he listened, measured, calculated and gave me a quote the same day. Not being one to jump in without reflection I reviewed and tweaked the quote that evening then met with him the next day and signed the revised contract. The office called the following day and scheduled the work for early the next week.
The installer showed up on time and went right to work drilling exterior injection holes between every stud and above and below the openings. Then he cranked up the pump, tuned the mixture until it was right, then injected the foam in the lower holes until it came out the upper opening. It looked like big, white worms but had no smell and while it was wet - several hours - washed off easily.
The only problem with the whole project was that halfway through patching the exterior holes, the installer ran out of Patch All and went to buy some more. At this stage I did not monitor the work and it turned out he bought and used joint compound rather than Patch All. It was not until after he was done and gone that I discovered the problem and called the office. I could tell they thought the newer patch might work and asked if I'd check it the next day. I did and called back telling them that the situation was unchanged and they had to remove the joint compound and seal the openings with a proper patch. It was a couple of days but the installer did return and, with my help and supervision, did the job right.
That was several weeks ago. I wanted to experience the results for a while before writing my review and, as negotiated, the salesman returned for post-installation thermal imaging. The difference was remarkable: the imaging found no hot or cold spots.
Not only does the heating/cooling come on fewer times but, even more pleasing is the fact that the temperature throughout the whole house is more even. Before the work was done, sitting next to an outside could be uncomfortable because of the temperature difference. That is no longer an issue and my house feels more comfortable, even luxurious.
I would have rated the experience as 5-Stars had it not been for the glitch with patching the exterior holes. The final result is 5-Star for sure.
