| - I know this might be quite long winded, but all I can say about FVC of Phoenix is absolutely WONDERFUL. I have been bringing my two dogs there since 2001.
The reason I am writing a yelp review now, is because my little guy who is about 16 needs an abdominal ultrasound, so I have been looking online for facilities that provide this service. I have seen horrible, god awful reviews on some of the clinics, and thought I needed to voice my opinion on how fantastic Family Vet Care of Phoenix is.
They DO look at your furry friend as FAMILY. They treat your babies like FAMILY. Their staff is incredibly pleasant from the front desk to the vet techs. They are all so compassionate, mindful, and thoughtful. I get told sometimes "Well they're awfully expensive there" - and I don't care to know if that's true. All I know is that my pets get treated with the best care each and every time I bring them in.
In late 2013, my oldest dog, Sugar started to develop dementia. She would get lost in corners, fall asleep standing up, was having incontinence issues, and altogether was just kind of falling apart. At this time she was approximately 17 years old. I tried to manage her as best as I could, and then on January 10, 2014, I woke up in the morning and noticed she had urinated in her dog bed and had laid there in it all night - and not even moved. I decided at that point it was her time. I had heard on a local radio station a couple of years before about a mobile euthanasia service. I thought it was funny at the time solely because of the name, but I then thought "That is brilliant". I had inquired the year before as to whether FVC would come to my home when the day came as I knew my dogs were getting older. That day had come for Sugar.
I called an made an appt. for January 23rd for Sugar. Dr. Mott and Carol were the ones that were going to come and put my precious dog to sleep so she would suffer no more. I picked up the oral sedative the day before, and requested that she also have the intramuscular sedative at the time of the appt. as she had a high tolerance for medication. No problem - they said. At noon on 1.23.14, Carol and Dr. Mott came to my home - entered quietly as Sugar was now sedated on the oral meds. They quietly gave her the IM sedative, then a few minutes later, the final shot. She went so peacefully. They let me cry, say my goodbyes, etc. They asked if I wanted to take her doggie sweater off. I said no - that anything under 75 degrees was cold to her :) They placed her on a backboard with a plaid fuzzy blanket and draped it over her. I could not watch as they left, but they took her back to the clinic so that she could be sent off for cremation. I received her ashes back 4 days later in a nice container with her name on it and date of birth and date of death. It was very touching. They hugged me, watched me sob like a baby, and sent me a card afterwards with everyone's condolences on it. Class act.
Just recently I took my boy dog in for an appointment. As I pulled up, I saw Dr. Mott and a tech unloading another dog that had been put to sleep and taking it inside. Again, the dog had a fuzzy blanket over him/her, and lay atop a dog bed. They didn't know I was watching, but the care in handling was unlike anything I had ever seen before. So gentle and careful. Often times people that do things of a sensitive nature become immune to it and can forget the compassion that they should have - not these people.
I have seen Dr. Mott (who did a great job on Sugar's tooth extractions in Feb. 2013), Dr. McGivern, Dr. Derksen, and Dr. Olsen (who is no longer there). All of them are wonderful.
I feel like the time might be coming for my little guy. He is having issues, and is really old. It breaks my heart to think about him leaving, but I have to do what is right by him. And I would have no one else than the staff at FVC of Phoenix do it. They love him even though he can be a grumpy old man sometimes and slips and slides all over the place because of his arthritis, but they embrace him each and every visit. They work with me on my tight budget and give me every option available. Thank you FVC of Phoenix for being so kind to me and my dogs, for I love them more than life itself. You truly deserve nothing but the best for all that you do for our fur families :)
