| - Picked Nellis at random to take us to the airport from our vacation rental. Positives: I called ahead for a 9am pickup, and they were early! Ride was fine, no troubles, and we arrived in plenty of time. Negatives: By Google Maps, it's 9.9 miles from our rental at 7870 Dana Point Court to the airport. The posted rate was $3.45 for the first ¼ mile, 67¢ each thereafter. So I expected to pay $3.45+$0.67×(9.9-0.25)=$29.31. Instead we paid $38. I can see a couple extra bucks for the airport loop, but 8+ bucks? He also didn't offer a receipt, and had to ask another driver for change. No tip for you, sir. My advice? Always explicitly tell the driver the route you wish to take, unless you're just in it to support the local economy.
(Point of trivia: It's illegal in Vegas to take you to your destination by any route but the shortest, except by your express request. Not to be heavy handed, but in case the company is reading this the cabbie was Yohannes Nesterab, permit 028402.)
