  • The BF and I packed up a uhaul and drove it up to the charlotte area for his new job. We stayed in a hotel while we explored everywhere we possibly could in the few days until his training started. We decided we loved the bexley communities we visited in Huntersville and other areas so we decided I check this one out on a last and final apartment tour. The one bedrooms are small, but very new and clean. I think we got too anxious because there were quite a few things we forgot to ask or check out in the tour. We didn't realize it was a 100% smoke free community. Fine for us bc we don't smoke but no one told us and that could have been a deal breaker if we did. It's also an overly energy efficient community. For instance... Hot water. We had none until we asked maintenance to come turn it up and they said they couldn't even after we signed their waiver. We did it ourselves and it's still only hot for 10-15 minutes. Then there's the lighting. There are no lights in the living or bedroom. The kitchen lighting is very dim with only a few small bulbs. We asked why there were none since the model we saw had them installed. They said they don't provide them. So there is barely any light. We asked if we bought ceiling units if there was an electrician or someone in maintenance that could install them for us. They said no, despite the many risks we brought to their attention of residents doing their own wiring and electrician work in the unit. They didn't seem to care so we put up the lighting units ourselves. Took us lots of time and money for something that should be included in what you get in an apartment. Especially a "luxury" one. One of the selling points is that you can pay for rent online. They don't mention that you have to pay a fee if you pay rent online. They would rather you bring in a paper check to pay rent. Get out of the dark age! They probably should start integrating the computer into their record keeping since we have submitted proof of the required renters insurance three times now and keep getting harassed for the proof. We pay $799 plus water and trash for a 1/1. The cabinets aren't tall enough to fit a cereal box and there is limited space for other kitchen items. The pantry is tiny. There is an alarm system that no one in the office or maintenance knows how to use. That should have been noted in the tour where they also pointed out the wrong mailbox area and didn't explain any of the other good to know things about the community. They give you three days from move in to let them know about any discrepancies that you could be charged for at move out. I don't know about you, but I can't even unpack boxes in three days, let alone give the place a full inspection. Found several sizeable defects after about a week. We shall see what happens at move out. Parking close to your unit is tough on the weekends. There is no grocery store nearby, you have to get on the highway for a few miles. There is a walmart next door. The only reason it's getting two stars is that it is in a convenient location, feels safe and is relatively quiet. We moved in the end of January 2014. Our lease is for one year. I doubt we will renew.
