About me: I have been riding for years. I own multiple bikes currently and have owned a number of other bikes. I am quite knowledgeable and mechanical in my own skills. I also have lots of experience at other bike shops. I also work in a customer service industry. So that being said... Here is my review.
1. This shop is unkempt, cluttered , and disorganized with empty shelving and barren sales areas. It seriously looks like a bodega.
2. The staff actually greeted us upon entry. (An actual positive thing to say about this place )
3. I approached the employee at the counter (tall, thin, bearded and dark haired man maybe in his 30's). I told him I wanted to buy a shimano/sram 10-speed 11-28 cassette. He led me to the place they were located. He said here I have the "105" line of the shimano. I looked at the price ($89.99) and said that is a bit much. He had a foul look on his face. I told him at I have found the "ultegra" version on planetcyclery.com for much less ($65) and would he price match? He looked at me and said "I'm not going to price Match bro" with a nasty tone in his voice.
3.2 - I am not your bro. I am a grown adult. Well into my 30's and demand to be spoken to with respect. I am not some punk kid trying to rip you off. I was prepared to pay fair market value. Not a marked up low end item.
3.3. I then said no thank you. I'll just order it online. And continued to shop around.
4. While walking around him and another employee kept looking at us and speaking in hushed tones. Certainly bad mouthing us the whole time.
5. Upon heading for the door, the bearded man that "helped" us said in a sarcastic tone "thanks for coming in, have a great night!" It was simply oozing with disdain and sarcasm.
My evaluation is that this place is complete crap. I WILL NEVER RETURN. NOT EVEN IF I HAVE A FLAT AT THEIR FRONT DOOR. and I will tell ALL my friends that ride about how horrible this place is. This shop is only 2 miles from my house but I will be driving 10 miles to McGhie's EVERYTIME. they always are friendly. And price match anything you can find. The selection is awesome and the staff are knowledgable.
Bearded man you have just cost this business lots of money as I ride 150+ miles a week and something is bound to happen that I'll need to spend money....but not in your shop ! I understand the not price matching but your lack of respect, sarcasm, and condescending attitude are what have forever turned me away from this scourge of customer service and bike shop culture. You're the reason some people are afraid to go to shops and learn a new hobby!
