My first trip to The Workman's Friend was very successful. The the Plaza Midwood neighborhood is perfect for this Irish pub. Inside, inviting, somewhat simple, not quite cozy due to the layout but certainly comfortable. The menu is limited, which to me is a good thing as they can focus well on what they have chosen to offer. Menu items range from shepherd's pie and hamburgers to fried pickled okra and interesting salads. On this first visit, I had a glass of their house cabernet - pretty good actually - then took out shepherd's pie. Don't know how they could have browned the mashed potatoes for the take out but I kind of missed that part of the shepherd's pie.
The best part of the evening was the great, friendly service. I'll definitely go back - maybe today and get a nice Guinness.
