  • Elisa established my first set of Sisterlocs (SL). Less than one month later, I had to comb them out. One by one. All 508 of them. I felt the service I received from Elisa was very poor, rushed, and done carelessly without any passion in her work -- and it seemed to show in my locs, which in turn made me take them down. Most importantly, I combed them out because my locs were not done according to the SL guidelines (as per the professional opinion of a certified SL consultant who evaluated my hair prior to me making the decision to comb them out). This review is quite lengthy, so here is the Readers Digest version: I cannot and would not ever recommend anyone to Elisa / The LocDoc Hair Studio. I combed out my locs, yet Elisa did not issue me a 100% full refund of $850 and I felt she scammed me out of refunding a follow-up retightening service she did not provide. While there were a few sections of my hair done correctly and looked neat (of course, these are the sections Elisa chooses to post on her social media pgs), I felt overall my locs looked bad. So I got a second opinion from a certified SL consultant, and learned there were several large holes throughout a significant number of my locs (photos have been attached from my consultation with this other loctician showing these holes and loops). I was told the health of my locs would be compromised due to the holes. Also, my grid was off in some sections. Some rows started as one and then were split into two, loc beds were poorly sized, and/or grid did not line up. I felt I did not get that flawless grid I desired all over. I mean, what are SL without the highly coveted grid? If the grid is important to you, this is another reason I would not recommend Elisa. Furthermore, Elisa used an unqualified and untrained person -- a child, specifically her 12 year old daughter, to assist in establishing my locs. Elisa appeared to be rushing through my hair in order to complete several "personal projects" (i.e. homework) for her Master's program. Why schedule a time consuming install when she knew she had these deadlines? It seems to me Elisa was more concerned with making money then ensuring she had enough time and attention to provide proper, diligent care in locking my hair. And so, Elisa recruited her 12 year old minor child to assist. I was not comfortable with a child doing my hair however Elisa assured me she had trained her on the SL technique and she would be able to do my hair under her supervision. I repeatedly stopped her daughter to see her work which appeared to frustrate Elisa and she seemed upset that I kept stopping her daughter. To make up for delay and to try to stick to our time schedule, I (foolishly) offered to help Elisa with her homework assignments to which she agreed. I believe I should not have had to do that and she should not have agreed. Ultimately, towards the end of the my establishment session (which had exceeded a full day beyond the time she scheduled me --causing me to miss an event I had already paid for), Elisa decided to fire me! I was told she would complete the follow-up retightening, which was included in the $850 I paid, but afterwards I would need to find another consultant. However, about 2 weeks later, I received a text notifying me the retightening appointment was cancelled and a "certified letter has been sent explaining next steps..." The letter, which had a 7 day deadline for my response, was unknowingly mailed to me 11 days earlier. So I was informed almost 2 weeks later that my appointment was cancelled and to expect this letter (which by that point, the deadline in the letter had expired). Elisa's delay in notifying me of a time sensitive document being mailed to me made me feel like I was scammed. It seemed intentional and appeared as a calculated measure to cheat me out of an opportunity to respond and therefore withhold the funds for a service valued at $120 that she did not provide me. At this point, an official complaint was made against Elisa to SL Headquarters in order to obtain a full refund. In short, although Elisa advised the SL HQ she wanted proof I had combed out my locs before agreeing to a refund, even with the proof, she still refused to refund me in full. Instead Elisa withheld my $250 deposit as well as my initial consultation fee. She also refused to refund me for the concert event she caused me to miss (due to her working on her HW & taking another SL client during that time) All in all, I would not recommend Elisa / The Locdoc Natural Hair studio for SL services. I advise you to choose your SL consultant wisely otherwise you can possibly make the same expensive mistake I did. Its worth mentioning, there is another one star review below that reports receiving poor service and dissatisfaction in her business practices when it comes to refunds (see Mommi C's review under "Reviews not currently recommended").
