  • June 24, 2016 - Went to JCL Deer Valley ER with severe abdominal pains. Diagnosed with cholelithiasis and mild distention of the gallbladder and admitted to Med-Surg. Put me on pain meds (morphine) and iv antibiotics. June 25, 2016 - Dr. Patel came in and told me they were going to do an ERCP to remove the 3 mm gallstone from the bile duct but he was waiting on his associate because Dr. Patel did not do the procedure. Continued pain meds. Dr. Almuti, the Infectious Disease doctor, has put me on IV Meropenem for treatment of cholecystitis/cholangitis and asp PNA. I am assuming it was a surgeon who came in and recommended that I have the ERCP today and then a lap chole the next day to remove the gallbladder and then I would probably be ready for discharge by Tuesday, the 28th. June 26, 2016 - The surgeon stopped by the room and said he had scheduled the lap chole for today but that the GI doctor had not been in yet to do the ERCP and they had to wait for that procedure before they could get to the gallbladder. June 27, 2016 - Dr. Quershi did the ERCP at approximately 1:30 pm and in the process perforated the duodenum which left me in more pain than when I arrived at the ER. I was given 4 mg of morphine in recovery room. I was then returned to the Med/Surg floor, not connected to any type of monitor, and was given an additional 2 mg of morphine and then 1 mg of dilaudid within a period of an hour. This is when I coded and my daughter, an ER trauma nurse at another hospital who was present during this time, started bagging me. There was also a doctor in the room who started compressions as my daughter kept telling him that I still have a pulse. In the meantime, the other three nurses present, left the room to get necessary items. I will add that my 14 year old granddaughter and my husband, who has a heart condition, were both present in the room and witnessed the chaos that was happening with the hospital staff's lack of proficiency during the code. I was then sent to the CCU where I stayed until my discharge. June 28, 29, 2016 - I felt better and was put on a liquid diet. When asked if I could please take a shower, they said I was unable to because there were no showers in the CCU. My only activity was to get up to use the bedside commode. June 30, 2016 - I broke out in a rash on my back and around my mid-section, which I would call Shingles but the hospital did not attach that label to the diagnosis. However, their later response was that I had been on a regular regiment of ACYLOVIR when I arrived at the hospital so they were not responsible for any rash that incurred. I have been taking this medication for 30 years for preventative measures of a genital herpes and have NEVER had Shingles. Could stress, lack of getting out of bed for 6 days, and lack of cleanliness be a possible cause for this rash ?????? Or, as the hospital is referring, is because I have non-active genital herpes so I was more likely to get shingles from that. I've also had chicken pox. July 1, 2016 - Continued antibiotic treatment and was put on solid food. I questioned the nurse as to why they had not changed the IV site and that I had been told from previous training as a caregiver that it should be changed every 96 hours. She said she would check into it. July 2, 2016 - The night nurse came in and asked me if I wanted the IV site changed but I told her that I understood Dr. Makar was having the hospital check to see if they could get in touch with my insurance, Cigna-Medicare, to approve me being released the next day with and an IV port for the antibiotics. I suggested that she wait for confirmation instead of replacing the IV that night and then possibly having to put in a pic line for home antibiotics for discharge the next day per Dr. Robinson. Dr. Robinson who was the Infectious Disease doctor for Dr. Almuti at that time, told me he would not release me with an oral antibiotic because he did not know for sure what type of infection they were treating since there was no culture drawn prior to the therapy. Finally, I was told that Dr. Almuti had been contacted and approved my discharge with an oral antibiotic. July 3, 2016 - I was released from JCL Deer Valley with recommendations by Dr. Makar that I consult Dr. Low for a cholecystectomy within the next 3 weeks as the risk of recurrence of my condition was 30%. I was also told by Dr. Makar that if I had any vomiting or pain that I should return to the ER immediately. Sept 1, 2016 - Was finally able to have my gallbladder removed by Dr. Low.
