| - The rep, Mike, came out and did a great job of selling his company and the quality of their work. Their bid was a bit lower than another company so we went with Above and Beyond. I liked that it was a family run operation until learned what that really meant. Almost all the workers were family or friends but very few were actually qualified for the kind of work. So here is the good and the bad of it...
They did a nice job of laying the new pool surface. I like the color and the tile work. They were always willing to send someone out to make repairs.
But... they did not keep to the schedule they gave us, they did not tarp off the area well enough because a mess was left behind, a large part of my yard was drowning in water and construction fluids, and when they came to clean up they did very incomplete work.
They use a wire brush to clean the splatter from painted walls which left abrasions all over a new paint job all around the pool - gates, walls and fences had blue splatter all over them. I had to call them back 3 time to clean up and each time a very tired looking family member would show up with a wire brush and do something to another small amount of mess - so we dicided to repaint everything that was near the pool.
The foreman of the crew, another family member, was rarely there. There were stains all over the pool surface that they called "crema" which I asked them to clean up while they could stll walk in the pool. They sent over another very tired looking man to clean it up. When he left it looked like he hadn't done anything. Finally they told me I have fill the pool ASAP or it would be damaged. So I filled the pool and all the stains were sill there. I called them back, again, and the foreman started promising that the crema would dissipate on its own and that my brushing should remove a lot of it but that was not happening. So I called them back yet again and they send worker with a bottle of acid and PVC pipe to remove what they could. The pipe started melting after a while so we ended the work. To this day, over a year later, I still have those ugly crema stains that were supposed to be "no problem" and disappear on their own. They are very distinct patches of white all over a light blue surface.
I have seen other resurfacing jobs that looked a lot cleaner and nicer on the day they were complete. In my case it looks like amateurs were hard at work. After calling them so many times I became frustrated and tired of having them return so many times to do almost nothing. Now we just have what we have.
Update 5-31-2017: I called in as the owner requested and he seemed to remember me and my wife. We went over all the details of my complaints and for each complaint I was told that I should have done something different than I did. I was told that those ugly white patch are to be expected, but as stated above, I have seen pools that looked very nice and had no patches. I was offered an acid wash to try to clean that up, but I don't understand why that was not corrected at the time the work was done. I point out the patchiness several times during the project and that was not one of the options for addressing it. At this point, I don't want that crew back in my home for another few days.
