  • I feel like they probably rushed to finish by opening day and hope that things will be different in a few months. I was SO excited for OdySea to open and I was a little disappointed when it didn't live up to my expectations. The renderings are so colorful and dynamic that I just imagined the entire place would full of amazing architecture, art, and a lot of beautifully lit exhibits. In reality I found it very dark and bare. I expected something on the scale of the AZ Science Center but for marine life with lots of fun educating activities, shows, and attractions. Everything was concrete, and there was very little lighting in the halls or tanks. The exibits had very little information on what we were seeing, the glass of the aquariums were already cloudy and the water was a bit murky making it less visually captivating. (That is what I found most disappointing). It was a lot smaller than I was expecting. The building is huge and I figured we would be there a good portion of the day but we were finished walking through everything is less than an hour and a half. We actually assumed we had missed a large section because it just felt so incomplete when we turned a corner and it led us to the gift shop. Hopefully over the next year they will add some enhancements... Art, lighting, more shows or activities. The building itself is so grand and the performers outside in the beautiful cirque du soliel looking costumes made me think I would be walking in to a Disney-grade establishment but it's not quite there yet. I imagined beautiful colored fish and aquariums (like the rainforest cafe or Monterey Aquarium) but I got more of a Phx Zoo vibe. I have high hopes for this place in the future though, I just hope they continue to work on it and don't give up. I'll try back in a few months & update!
