  • Here's a fact-filled event of deceptive and passive aggressive business practices (direct from the "owner" no less)... During the course of another project I noticed a calcified water pipe in the wall that appeared bad enough to have checked out. After contacting "Village Plumbing" I sent a clear image to the owners cell phone so that he could see what I was describing. THREE minutes later he texted: "The price parts and labor $165." ONE minute later "And thanks for considering Village Plumbing for you plumbing needs" followed. NINE minutes later I responded clarifying there was "no emergency" and asked for estimated time he proposed to show up to confirm his bid was accurate. Be aware that prior to, during, and after this texting correspondence I was also covering my bases by getting the opinion of other plumbers which, as you'll see, turned out to be a very smart move. 3.5 HOURS AFTER his "...thanks for considering..." text he sends this nasty reply to my basic request (as written above) for when, if at all, he was going to show up: "I was driving. Go ahead and get anotehr plumber and pay more. Better yet get a handyman and flood your house out. I don't need your job. Thanks anyway. You must be a real joy to live with." What??? "I was driving." Hmmm, uhhh, what legitimate "on the road" business "owner" doesn't have a headset for their cell phone? 1995 was like gee, well over 20 years ago - get with the times fool. Sorry angry owner, it's business 101 - YOU snooze YOU lose! Unfortunately for arrogant self-centered contractors, many of us have busy schedules ourselves. We don't have HOURS to wait around by the phone like a sad puppy dog hoping you'll grace at some unknown hour with a simple answer to a simple question. Stack your "wait for Mr. god contractor" schedule with other lap dogs with time to waste. Being too busy to deal with this ill-mannered fool I simply took the high (and dry, thankfully) road and never replied back to his hostile text. Have you EVER heard of a plumber telling you they hope your home floods?!?! Well, it gets worse... Prior to his angry text another plumber showed up, ON TIME, and told me NOTHING was wrong with any of the plumbing. NO repair of any kind needed. Multiple calls to several plumbers saved the day - especially one plumber that actually showed up when they said they would AND correctly determined NO work necessary. They even told me WHY there was NO problem - in simple english. Unfortunately, Village Plumbing was running the typical scare tactic scam on me in hopes of easy money. The "owner" should reserve himself for behind the scenes office work versus attempting to interact with prospective customers - ya think?! Sadly, it's all to common these days... Deceptive low ball estimates (such as that from Village Plumbing) are meant to get you to skip contacting legitimate contractors who will tell you what the REAL facts are. So, it was a silver lining that Village Plumbing NEVER committed to a show time AND took WAY too long to reply besides that. There are plenty of other plumbers out there that are on the ball, timely, AND honest too. There ya go fellow Yelpers - brutal honesty wins the day. Village Plumbing? Pffttt! More like village idiot.
