Where's the Bam!?! This was my first time dining in any of Emeril's restaurants so needless to say I had high hopes for being blown away with flavor.
We figured what better time to try We came in on Wednesday during restaurant week.
Like the smart people we are, we made reservations for an off time 9PM and were rewarded with quick seating at an awesome table near the servers desk (sense the sarcasm?)
It's funny you figure since we were close to the servers desk that we would not have to worry about flagging down or look for our waitress but sadly that wasn't the case.
A little tip for the wait staff: you shouldn't talk crap about your tables or guests in front of the other guests. While it was entertaining, it's unprofessional.
Food:
We ordered off of the restaurant week menu.
The shining dish of our dining experience was the pretzel bread! WOW I've had pretzel bread from other places but damn! this one is a winner! Salty hard pretzel exterior and soft bead guts. I asked them for at least 4 of these bad boys! 5* on the free bread!
Our menu selections:
Romaine hearts ceasar salad
This dish honestly failed to wow me in any way it felt like a lazy salad idea as it was plated with 3 romaine spears with cheese and dressing. I would've have preferred a "normal" ceasar salad over this version.
Clam Chowder
Emeril's version of clam chowder was decent but didn't have any zing or "bam!" as the man himself would say. I could tell that the clams used were fresh as there was a bit of sand and grit at the bottom of my bowl (this is a good thing)
Horseradish blue shrimp w/ cous cous and cauliflower.
This sounded awesome on the menu but sadly it did not come close to what was advertised. The shrimp was overcooked and were almost rubbery enough that you could bounce them like a basketball. Seasoning? There was not a single hint of horseradish to be found on the plate! I will say that the cous cous served were very interesting. they were light and fluffy and had a tobiko (fish egg) like texture to it. It's sad when that was the most memorable part of any of the dishes I ordered.
BBQ Salmon
I know I should've ordered this instead. A nice quality slice of fish with a hint of bbq marinade and smoke in the meat however I wish that they let the heavy coat of BBQ sauce caramelize a bit before serving it because by just slathering a coat on before it's served cheapens the dish up. It was the better of the 2 main entree's that we ordered.
Flour-less Chocolate Cake:
I respect an establishment that has yummies for the anti-gluten patrons. I am pro-gluten and pro-chocolate so sacrifices had to be made... Not a bad little chocolate cake, it could almost pass as a "normal" dry chocolate cake if I didn't know beforehand.
All in all, I would be lying if I said I would recommend this place to dine. For a mid-high end resort restaurant with a name brand chef's name attached to it I would expect better. None of the dishes had any sense of seasoning or beloved BAM in it that you would come to expect from Emeril and the only good thing that was memorable was the pretzel bread.... The Man himself needs to come to his restaurant before they have to recruit Robert Irvine to save this place....
