| - It wasn't my first trip to Fran's and it won't be my last. For what my wife and I were looking for, we had a close to perfect evening. We only wanted a light meal prior to going to the movies. We split the bacon-wrapped tots (maple bacon, not jalapeno bacon). I had the Chinese chicken salad and my wife had the scallop appetizer. Then we finished with a slice of key lime pie.
Our waiter, Todd, paced the meal perfectly. He suggested that since my wife liked lighter beers/ciders that she should try the strawberry lemonade beer they had. It was an excellent suggestion.
What I take away from Fran's in the times I've been there. I does food well and allows you to have a light meal or a full meal with superb choices for each. While the scallop app only comes with 2 pieces, it lays on a bed of Carolina Gold rice and a corn/bacon relish. Everything pairs well and it is an excellent small plate. The chinese chicken salad is dressed ideally for my taste, the chicken is tender and cooked perfectly.
When my wife said she was eyeing the key lime pie earlier in the meal, Todd put a piece aside because they were getting low and they brought it out without it actually being ordered. And I will admit, had we been with certain friends, this would've been made a huge issue and they would've ruined the evening complaining about the presumption. That's not the way I roll. When I go out to dinner, I want to have an enjoyable night and Todd made it enjoyable, and frankly, bringing a dessert we wanted is fine by me - it came off as a caring touch.
That's how I sum up Fran's. I feel comfortable there. I like the food. I like the atmosphere. That's why I'll keep coming back
