After all the claims about superior customer service at Spencer's Appliance, I expected better. We went to their Goodyear store intending to buy one of two TVs advertised in that day's newspaper. No one seemed overly eager to help us, and when "Dave" did, he told us that a lower end model was the one on sale. He almost had my husband convinced when I brought the model number discrepancy to my husband's attention. He needed certain features that ruled this "substitute" out. The more expensive advertised model was not available either. We discussed what to do--buy elsewhere, order from Amazon, etc.
When I asked why advertised merchandise was not available, Dave said that he doesn't have anything to do with the advertising and that the ads are prepared six weeks ahead. He made no suggestions that would result in a sale for him and satisfaction for us.
We measured and examined several other non-sale models and finally, my husband asked me "What do you want?" When I answered "I want the advertised item at the sale price", my husband asked Dave what he could do for us on either of the two higher priced items that fit our space and needs. Dave offered $100 off a model that we preferred. THEN he checked and told us that that one was not in stock! He said that they had it at a store up the street. Why would he send us to the competing store?? Oh, they own Home Appliances too!
We paid at Spencer's and went talk to Jean at Home Appliances. She had the TV and a hand truck waiting for us, but there was no help available to get it loaded. She did hold the store's door open and walk us to our vehicle. (I recently had surgery and I cannot yet lift heavy objects.) The TV is very nice but in the end we spent 50% more than we had expected.
