  • booked the hotel a week before traveling via hotels.com. got the best deal at the time at an average of US$75+tx a night for a "premier room" (the middle grade). it still had a king-size bed and all amenities, so i don't see why i had to pay an extra $40 for a "deluxe" or whatever higher category room they want to call it. our room was at the corner of the floor so it was very quiet; barely heard neighbors and only heard a fire engine/siren from the street once on the 10th floor w/windows closed. we were facing the hwy 7 side, but no traffic noise coming from the streets was noticeable on a regular basis. the room itself--being a "premier" room--wasn't lavishly decorated, but had everything a decent hotel room needs to have, and more: clean and spacious room w/desk and one person couch + foot rest; king-size bed across the older tv (tube) w/cable channels; lots of space for luggage and misc bags (yes, me); full-size closet w/hangers, ironing board and all; mini-fridge that's empty, purely for our use; coffee machine, tea pot, beverage packages and condiments; full amenities in the bathroom, plenty of towels. oh and their two-layer curtains (w/skirt!) close ALL the way and cover all 4 corners, so the room could still be pitch dark in the morning, perfect for those who like to sleep in. and all that for US$75 a night?? i say that's a steal. did i mention VERY comfy bed AND pillows??? feels like down pillows and if they're not, you can be fooled. the hotel also has a website and a 1-800 number for rsvn, so i could call from the states to confirm my room and etc w/o paying long distance phone charges. their location is EXCELLENT being right off 404 & hwy 7. plenty of private parking spaces, equipped w/surveillance cameras in the lot. newly renovated lobby (they're still changing the floor tiles) w/modern decor. swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna room, and fitness room open daily till 11pm. (the pool looked a little murky, though.) didn't try their restaurant as there are plenty of good food in the markham/richmond hill areas, all within stone-cast distance. local calls included; don't think we needed it at first but then we could make reservations to restaurants for free! how cool is that. and free wi-fi all the way! yippie. friendly and enthusiastic staff (front desk and housekeeping); we felt welcome and well-served staying here. only two minor complaints: 1). the "shelf" where the AC is housed gets quite moist (ex. we saw daily dews) esp in the morning, so don't put anything too near the vent even though that's good extra space for use. 2). the elevators (3 serving some 15+ floors?) were a bit slow. they usually take a while to arrive on floor, but it was good speed going up and down. also the elevator doors don't respond to touch in order to re-open; you have to hit the middle "sensor tongue" (i don't know what that thing is called) real hard, or it seemed only the "open door" button could command the doors to respond properly. kind of a safety hazard if you have little kids. shall i visit toronto again (which i would), i would definitely choose this place again. saw their other establishment while touring montreal, and regretted we didn't pick to stay there as well. only if we knew. but i doubt i'd get the same great deal as i would in toronto, since their listing--if shown at all--didn't appear on the lower end on price. oh well. but as far as delta markham is concerned, i only have two words for you: highly recommended.
