Interesting pub on a busy street (sherbrooke). It's busier in the afternoons (4 to 8) than at night (from my couple experiences here, as well as just passing it often). They have a big patio facing the street so it can be noisy. There are also many homeless people who hang out on that particular street corner.
Benelux has a wide selection of beers on tap (10+), so something for everyone. The last time I went the service was awful. I met a friend there to catch up but we had limited time and we're just going to have 1 drink each. My friend finished his before me and our server kept coming back and asking us if we wanted another drink. When I was on my last sip before we could even ask for the check, he told us we needed to leave because there were people waiting for tables.
We went inside to pay and I paid for my beer in cash. The server gave me back less than the correct amount of change and I told him so. He responded saying "yes, because the tip wasnt included on the check." (*note this whole conversation happened in French).
He took out over a 20% tip for himself. I have worked in the service industry and know that you are supposed to give back change then your customer will decide how much tip to leave in cash, the same way that when you pay on card a customer decides.
This turned me off Benelux & will likely not come back.
