| - I tend to give positive reviews, and to be understanding. My recent (and only) experience at this Staples store is straining that tendency for me today.
I wanted a simple computer desk and chair for my home office. It's temporary, as I have an awesome set already but we've moved and it won't be available for a couple months. I went in to Staples, feeling confident I could find something that would work.
An associate approached me and asked if I needed help. I said yes, I'd like this desk (it was ideal for what I wanted). He checked the price for me, because the price tag on the desk turned out to actually be for a chair that was placed there. The price was even lower than what was on the tag - looking good so far! He then checked availability - sorry, we don't have this. You could order it...
I wanted something today, or at least this weekend, so ordering it wasn't an option I was interested in. So I selected an alternative. NOPE, we don't have that one either. OK, how about this third choice? NOPE, don't have that either. He was courteous and apologetic.
I said okay, I guess this isn't working out, but I do like that chair on display for sale at $99. The sign next to the chair gave the price, manufacturer, and the color (camel). I said I'd like one of those, and he said "oh, just take any of the boxes right there behind it." So I loaded one up in a cart, went to the cashier line and as I waited my turn, I looked more closely at the box and saw the color was black. I went back to the display, and all of the boxes contained black chairs. Not a camel colored chair to be found.
So I unloaded the box, put it back where I'd found it, returned the cart to the front of the store and left empty-handed.
While the employee was courteous, he turned out to not be all that helpful and while the store had several items on display that I would have liked to purchase, none of it was actually in the store for me to buy. Very disappointing.
