| - This is hands down one of the hardest reviews I've written to date - the conflict I feel inside is simply indescribable.
All dramatics aside, I am actually pretty conflicted.
I have been a lifelong Costco goer (first with my family, and now on my own membership). I grew up looking forward to chicken bakes and food samples, and I personally believe that they have some of the best frozen salmon fillets. Costco is basically my religion, and their gas is my Sunday ritual. Now that I am a strong independent woman who lives alone and budgets her own money, I plan my Costco trips carefully. I count my pennies, because it's shockingly easy to go nuts in that warehouse full of goodness. There's nothing bad to say about Costco - though the exact products may differ week to week, you know what chaos you're walking into. Sometimes the value isn't all there, but it usually is.
Today, I came to this Gilbert location to get a new Keurig for work. Armed with my work credit cards, I was so excited to finally get a shiny new office coffee maker. Now, we all know that one of the cardinal rules at Costco is....DEBIT CARD DEBIT CARD DEBIT CARD. Well, we have a business membership there, and we use AmEx and MasterCard at my company. I got in line with the Keurig, but couldn't pay with the AmEx - I was unaware that Costco and AmEx broke up last year. Okay my bad. I couldn't immediately locate my MasterCard, so I stepped out of line to call my manager about what card we use for Costco runs. Alright MasterCard it is. At my second go-around, the MasterCard was declined too, and they told me I could only use my MasterCard if it was debit and had a pin, which it did not. We have been coming here for YEARS using MasterCard, and all of a sudden I'm not allowed to use it? I called my manager back and let him know I was unable to purchase the Keurig. He was extremely shocked and confused as well.
Maybe I just sound like a disgruntled customer who was unable to get their way...but when I got back to my desk, there was a receipt for a Keurig purchased online at Costco. With a MasterCard - credit. Someone please tell me where the sense in that is?! To add to my saltiness, after shipping and taxes, the coffee maker ended up being almost $70 more than what I would've paid in store.
I love Costco, and I guess it would be too wild for me to cancel my personal membership over this, but man I walked out of that warehouse today fuming. Again, I know I might sound like someone upset because they didn't get their way...but that online purchase!
