| - The Linq is the third Las Vegas hotel/casino I've stayed at on this trip to the US and is by far the biggest disappointment and most over priced. It's apparently the newest hotel on the strip but the lobby and casino reeks of the old property they renovated. Everything is really squished in and is really poorly laid out, especially if you're wheeling a suitcase which is pretty much everyone.
They seem to have introduced self serve check-in kiosks which no one was using. I'm not sure if that was because it didn't work (it didn't work for me but I'm assuming that's because my ID isn't American as I couldn't even get past that first step with it) or because it completely lacks the whole introduction to the property. The lady who did my registration was lovely and was the best thing about the whole place in my opinion.
Once we got through all the drunk people crowding the walkways to the lifts at 3pm on a Friday afternoon, I was really disappointed when we got to our room. The "compact" nature of it wasn't so much the issue but more that it was so incredibly basic. And not in a contemporary minimalist way, but a "they ran out of money and had to open anyway" way. There isn't even a clock in the room. It was clean though and the mini fridge is a good amenity but there's no mini bar or snacks. The biggest put off was the shampoo and conditioner and body wash in dispensers stuck to the wall in the shower - so cheap and tacky. I've seen what the inside of those things look like if they're not constantly thoroughly cleaned so there was no way I was using any of it.
The beds were ok comfort wise but the air conditioning was a wall unit, not a central unit like other hotels of this standard and because of that it was noisy and was constantly going on and off. To top it off, while we were sleeping it seemed to shut off completely as it was extremely stuffy in the room when I woke a few hours later.
The most annoying thing was when I went to order some room service dinner at 9.30pm. There's no folders or directories in the room giving information on the hotel other than a leaflet type thing which isn't helpful at all so I went through the Hotel Information section on the TV and found a Room Service option. There was a really limited menu but my son wasn't well so leaving the room at that point to go and find food wasn't an option so I went ahead and tried to order a chicken salad and it came up with a message saying ordering wasn't available at that time. I figured it was a technical problem as I'd seen on another screen that room service was available 24/7 on Friday night so I called them instead and was told they'd closed early!! In a packed hotel, this just did not make sense to me. So the only option was to quickly pop down to the "Nook Express" which had few options so I ended up with a $10 "chicken" salad that consisted of 5 bite sized pieces of chicken, 2 cherry tomatoes and a whole lot of brown lettuce.
After a very low pressure shower (don't attempt to wash your hair here ladies..) I decided to get some sleep but there was this bass thumping from somewhere. We were on the 17th floor so I don't know if it was from a roof top nightclub or what but it was still going at 5.30am the next morning. There were loud drunk people in the hallways coming in from their nights out and stuffiness from lack of aircon mentioned earlier, so that was the end of me sleeping and the start of a really bad headache from lack of sleep.
If you just want somewhere to pass out for a few hours after a drunken night out with not even a drink in the fridge or proper ventilation, sure - stay here. Btw - this property is definitely not family friendly with girls dancing in lingerie on top of tables right next to check in, and drunk people staggering all through the hotel at all times of day, so stay right away from here if you're travelling with a kid.
