| - You tricky little lounge! I had no idea you were somehow supposed to be a sports bar. I guess that is your daytime gig, but I am only concerned with your nighttime affairs. At night, you are a treat with a bit of Vegas magic that some fear has left town.
Book & Stage is one of the places where The Cosmopolitan demonstrates how to inject the spirit of Vegas past into the present without smelling like moth balls. What I am trying to say is that while the furnishings may not be vintage, the idea is: talented, hard-working, original groups sharing their talent for free in a comfortable, classy environment with plenty of tasty cocktails. Watch out lounge bands! There's some new kids in town, and they are coming from LA, Austin and every corner of the indie music world.
We caught Fitz and The Tantrums, and the music and atmosphere were fantastic. My poison was the Stunning Man. I can't resist ginger beer concoctions. Be warned it is a deep purple and comes in a super tall glass, which would probably stun a man if he were easily embarrassed by girlie looking drinks. While it had a great taste, I didn't detect too much alcohol. Maybe it was cleverly disguised, or maybe it was a weak drink. I would have expected a bit of a buzz based on the sheer height of the glass, but I was buzz-free. My only other minor complaint is that the sound was not too great on the evening I visited. I couldn't decide if the mix was off, or if the configuration of speakers made it hard to deliver a nice even sound to the space.
Either way, no worries. I still get giddy thinking about all the coolness that is bound to roll through this space in the near future. Bravo Book & Stage for figuring out that true icons don't rehash the pass. They deliver the next big thing.
