| - Sooo, it's been over 3 years since we ever considered taking the ride on the High Roller. This time around, we couldn't chicken out as we planned to be joined by a couple of friends. Ahh, but, then I found out that along with my husband, my friend is also somewhat acrophobic.
The High Roller stands at 550 feet high or in other words, it's 55 stories high. It still holds the Guinness World Record as the tallest Observation Wheel! Each pod has a capacity of at least 40 people, there are 28 pods that continually revolve for a duration of 30 minutes. BUT, to further entice or enhance the scenic ride, there are several pods that have full-bar service with a bartender/bartendress.
I decided to order our tickets online and chose the DAYTIME Happy Half Hour tickets which are good from 11:30AM - 7:00PM on the day that is selected. Our friends knew that we signed up for the HHH but my husband was the only one who was surprised. My slightly acrophobic husband and friend seemed to "let go" of their fears as the drinks flowed and even when we reached the top at 550 feet. In fact, we were able to wander about the glass pod (roughly 300 sq ft) quite freely to get clear 360 degree views.
Luckily, we happened to be riding in a pod in which the bartendress was one of the original employees of this ride. She was friendly and gave very generous pours on the unlimited drinks that we ordered from start to finish. In fact, as we were descending, she offered to pour us each another drink "for the road".
We took our ride after 3:30PM as we wanted to see all that we could during daylight plus not worry about staggering out in the dark. Although, we kept in mind that the price change occurs at 7:00PM we wanted to complete the ride before it got dark or more crowded around sunset.
TIP: The wheel is constantly revolving so it's a good idea to be have steady legs when entering or exiting the pod.
