  • Back in the day, Siegfried and Roy were master magicians. They drew millions of people over their magic career. They had special white tigers that they used in their act. They loved the tigers a whole lot and gave them a wondrous sanctuary in the heart of Sin City. Then, in 2003, one of the tigers bit Roy in the throat. Their magic act kinda ended then. While the Magic of Siegfried and Roy are no longer an option in Las Vegas, they've still got the beautiful white tigers at the Mirage. Well, probably not THOSE tigers, but probably their offspring? Maybe? Anyhoo. One twenty(ish) dollar ticket gets you access to the white "Big Cat" sanctuary and a highly entertaining dolphin pen. The dolphins are exciting. Every fifteen or twenty minutes or so, there are keepers who discuss the dolphins and have training sessions with them. They'll also answer any number of dumb dolphin questions you've got. Seriously. Tons of them. The keepers are pretty darn nice. They even toss giant-sized Kong toys to the dolphins for play and entertainment. Man. They love those dang things. From what I understand, you can pay more money to have time with the dolphins. Feeding, petting, helping to train, photography with....that sorta thing. Once you've seen the dolphins, watched the dolphins, attempted photographs of the dolphins, you can go and visit the big cats. The cats are along a path further back behind the three massive pools for the dolphins. The cats languidly lounged about (as cats do) and are far easier to photograph than the aquatic mammals. They've got white Lions, white tigers, white Pumas. But they're not albino, they're actually supposed to be that way. I thought that was weird. But nature is sometimes weird like that. So ya. The tigers and dolphins of the Mirage are pretty darn neat. I think I spent 3 to 5 hours at the Mirage. But that does include the time I spent at the buffet(which is pretty darn great). If you've got some time, go check out the tigers and dolphins....or the buffet. P.S. Getting into the Mirage: The self parking ticket machine is on a pretty good incline. So if you've got a clutch like I do. Good luck! For More Info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siegfried_%26_Roy
