| - *ZERO STARS* I left this place so upset and soon as I got in my car I hugged my pup and started to cry, expressing how sorry I was that I let them take her in the back room. I took my 4 month old chihuahua/golden retriever mix (Maggie) in for her 3rd and final round of shots before we spay her. She's been here twice before with Dr. Amayouseff as her primary. This time around she was on vacation and Dr. Henault (who is a bran new Vet.) was covering for her. When we first got there Tina who was the Vet. Tech. assisting that day brought us into room 3 she stated that she needed to take her temp. but Maggie was a little squirmy so she opted out of taking her temp. All together. She then stated the Dr. will be in to administer the shots. Dr. Henault came in, examined her for a second and then said he was going to bring her in the back so the Vet. Tech. can assist him with giving her the shots. I thought this was odd since they always did it right in the room in front me w/ a Vet. Tech. there, but regardless I was totally fine with it- the only thing is she's never been back there. Dr. Henault takes her back and she starts SCREAMING BLOODY MURDER.. I definitely expected this to happen and I was perfectly fine with it... What I didn't like was the way they were treating her and I could hear every word they're saying since they're trying to speak over her... Instead of taking that fact that she's a 4 month old puppy who has NEVER had any experience with being back there into consideration and trying to CALMLY comfort her and console her all I hear is- "OH MY GOD, MAGGIE" "CALM DOWN!" "WHY ARE YOU ACTING LIKE THIS?" "HEY, HEY, HEY, HEY" these were the EXACT words that I hear coming from the back room. On top of that, it wasn't just the Vet. Tech. That was saying this, there were two other girls back there with loud voices in awe at the fact that she was acting this way. So how do you think she is going to respond to that? She's definitely NOT going to calm down AND her name is not "HEY, HEY, HEY" I was in COMPLETE shock. I recorded part of it and you can here how loud they were being towards her and clearly hear that they were not even referring to her by her name which is "MAGGIE" not "HEY". So then Dr. Henault comes back in and has this HUGE smirk on his face with eyes wide open like he's in such UTTER shock that she was acting that way and at the same time is shaking his head side to side.. ? So I tell him you know, I've never heard her scream so loud and that this was her first time.. He then stated she shouldn't have been that afraid and was just so surprised that a 4 month old puppy would be that loud, he also stated that they had to put a muzzle on her because she started biting (this was perfectly fine with me, I'm not upset at all that they had to restrain her) what I'm upset about is that they were SO SHOCKED that a 4 month old, 5lb. PUPPY was acting this way. So then as he was speaking to me he had the door propped open to the back lab where Maggie was and ANOTHER assistant (Linzi) that was sitting at the lab table who had absolutely nothing to do with my appt. looked at me and had this (again, SHOCKED and judged look on her face) and started to tell me "you need to take care of that, and maybe socialize her a bit more" ?? I mean, SHE'S A 4 MONTH OLD TINY PUPPY WHO HAS NEVER BEEN BACK THERE.. I don't get how they couldn't realize that, and maybe the fact that they were in such SHOCK and talking so loudly was the ONLY reason why she couldn't calm down.. I was the one that was in so much SHOCK that they couldn't realize that and give her a more calm and comfortable environment to be in. Isn't this what they're taught in school? She was screaming just by the mere touch of someone wiping her down because she peed herself.. Shouldn't that tell them something? At this point I just wanted my puppy and I wanted to be GONE but I still had to check out. I go to the cashier and Tina (who was the actual assistant) comes out to the cashier, obviously DISTRAUGHT, her eyes were red and there were tears in her eyes and she couldn't even look at me and I'm standing there thinking- WTH? Am I in the twilight zone or something?? I thought I came to an ANIMAL HOSPITAL??! She then stated you should probably socialize her a bit more and shows me her hand where Maggie scratched her by acc.. I said I have 4 dogs at home, 2 pitbulls and another chihuahua. On top of that we always have more than 3-4 people at our house. She LOVES to be around people and other dogs.. This was NOT my puppy's fault.. They should've done a better job at making her feel comfortable, that's all that needed to be done. I did not schedule another appt. to come here and get her spayed. I am not confident AT ALL in their ability to provide a safe, stable and COMFORTABLE environment for her to be in for a longer period of time. She'll be in a LIVING HELL if I bring her here. I just hope that they receive more training regarding this situation.
