| - I brought my Mom here to celebrate Mother's Day, a few days late due to my work schedule. She loves high tea and we have enjoyed visiting and dining at venues that offer the British experience. We came in today and the atmosphere was great, the hotel was beautiful and the employees were kind and inviting. The door man was very sweet, helped us with parking information and even took a photo of us before we enter. Our server - forgive me, I can't recall his name- an older gentleman- was wonderful. Kind, warm and friendly, knowledgeable when asked about the hotel history, and very attentive, topping up our tea with hot water without ever being intrusive. The reason I am giving this such a low rating is for mostly the food quality and in the long run; the cost. I always expect to pay a little bit more when taking her to any unique tea room.
The food; we were served a warm quiche to start. The quiche it self would have been wonderful but it had been placed on top of our scones. The scones were powered with sugar so obviously the quiche also now had sugar all over it. It wasn't horrible, we still ate it. The sandwiches were, I hate to say it, but horrible. One was basically a grilled cheese sandwich with ham in it. The sandwich was ice cold. The next was a smoked salmon on a little bun with I'm assuming cream cheese. It tasted like butter and the salmon had a strong fishy taste. Another one was a vegetable wrap with a piece of cucumber poking out of it. It was mushy and not fresh at all. The other sandwich was just a ball of .... I'm not quite sure. Cream cheese? And chipotle? Again very cold and not fresh. It was like eating leftovers from a baby shower, the sandwiches had that day old crust on them. I was so disappointed. The scones were okay but had this overpowering lemon taste to them and when cut open it appeared that they had chocolate chips or raisins in them- but yet didn't taste like either ingredient. The sweets that were served with the tea looked like they came out of a box. Nothing special, something you would expect to see served on a buffet table. Sugary jello topped tarts.
After tax and tip, it was $105.00 for 2 people.
Sandwiches that appeared and tasted like they had been sitting out for days.
I was really looking forward to this with my Mom, and she is such a sweet person she would never say anything negative, but I just feel cheated for the price I paid and for the horrible quality of food we received.
