| - This is my honest account regarding Desert Club (I do have a verifiable paper trail). I've lived in apartments before however I can say that this place is one of the worse. I'm not going to write a fluff piece stating how great this place is because it isn't great. It's pretty bad. I don't recommend renting here and the following are my reasons:
Pros:
Maintenance is pretty quick to respond to apartment issues but not gate issues
Garages- My garage is below my apartment. The issue is there are a few more garages underneath my apartment which are pretty loud in the mornings and at night.
Cons:
Management charges a carpet cleaning fee upon move out which IS NOT referenced anywhere in the lease. You have the option to hire a 3rd party or pay the leasing office. Not a nice surprise when giving 60 days notice. It's shady to say the least.
The office staff have proved to be incompetent on numerous occasions. Yeah they are nice when you are signing a lease but after that expect numerous letters attached to your door about maintenance with a footnote that is threatening in nature if you refuse to allow maintenance into your apartment. Seriously guys, you really need to work on the wording of the notices and your follow-up on other things. Also stop showing favoritism when tenants have constantly complained about certain people. Take action for a change. The mgr looked at me like a big deer in the headlights when I complained a second time about a tenant and her dog that constantly barks while on the patio. After talking to the neighbors, I found out that they had also complained to no avail.
Parking is atrocious.
Increase in residents using the exit gates as an entrance which is clearly a safety concern but the property mgr. doesn't care.
If you want to add a carport after you sign the lease, then you have to pay a lease change fee which is beyond ridiculous. It's just another way for the community to make money. As a matter of fact, any changes that you need require a lease change fee which is over $100.
The floors are super thin. I'm on the 2nd floor and I can hear the chicks upstairs walking constantly. I'm pretty sure it's a mixture of cheap craftsmanship and the fact that they walk really hard. So the noise levels can be quite irritating at times. The floor in my bedroom is also slanted in one area :( Also, there are a few areas where there are small lumps underneath the carpet.
The A/C isn't that great when it's really hot. As a result, the electric bills are inflated beyond belief. Thx APS and thanks Desert Club.
Hard water.
My apartment is located directly across from the Lifetime Fitness pool. So, I have the pleasure of hearing screaming kids in the afternoons and loud music and bass in the mornings during water aerobics and on the weekends. If you do choose to live here, then I suggest getting an apartment far, far away from Lifetime.
My dishwasher doesn't clean the dishes. This is due to the dishwashers not having water jets on the top. The jets are only on the bottom.
Lighting isn't included in the bedrooms but there are fans.
The gates have not worked quite a few times near my building. The last time this happened, it took 5 days to fix the gates. This was crazy because the chain broke on one of the gates so one side was open and one side was closed which meant jerks were using the gate as an entrance instead of an exit. I wish management would have stepped up and at least manually closed the broken gate until it could have been fixed. Even when the gates are fixed, there are certain residents who use them as an exit and entrance if someone just happens to be leaving the complex at the same time they are pulling in. Traffic spikes are a simple fix!
I did try moving to another apartment 25 days into my lease but the person I talked to told me that it would be a brand new lease. So my lease wouldn't transfer. This place has a great deal of issues that need to be fixed starting with the manager.
4 months after my review, the manager is allowing me to leave without penalty because she 'doesn't want me to feel stuck here' which is convenient since I only have two months left at this dump. Why not offer that deal months ago when you knew there were serious unfixable issues? Oh I know because 4 months times 1250 equals more money for the complex. The final straw came when the chick above me was complaining about my exhaust when I've been here for over 7 months. It doesn't take rocket science to know that a Roush exhaust is loud. There are plenty of other louder cars in the complex. The way that the front office handled the situation was stupid. Instead of contacting me via phone, they left a ridiculous note on my door. So I contacted them and they realized it was an unfixable, petty complaint. I mean one apt complaining about one car.

1 star is strictly for location.
