| - When we first arrived I thought our server was going to be snobby - the music was blasting inside and the restaurant seemed to be filled with only 20-somethings, so we decided to sit outside even though it was butt-cold. To my surprise our waitress was very cool and made accommodations for us like moving the heater over to our table, offering to split our dish (we shared a main and ordered several other appetizers) and offering us hot water after we pulled this next thing off...
Because I can't drink freaking ice water when it's 30 degrees out, I asked for a cup of hot water to warm up the ice water we'd been given. Then I realized I had a bag of tea in my purse and put it in the hot water. When our waitress came out she look shocked and said, "did you bring your own tea?" Well, I hadn't planned on sneaking in tea to the restaurant it just happened to be in my purse from another event we went to before dinner and it seemed like a good idea when she brought me the hot water. When I explained that we'd just been to the Botanic Garden's annual Holiday Luminaria event and the tea was from that, she asked if we wanted more hot water. How cool is that? We act like near vagabonds at the restaurant and we still get the royal treatment. That's good service.
Oh. You probably want to know about the food. BEST GUACAMOLE I've ever had. Ever. Really. Made table side, to order, leave out whatever you want. Freaking amazing. The homemade salsa also rocked the house. I asked if there was cilantro in it (because I can't have it) and our waitress asked and returned with an answer - no. Just good, good service even though this joint seems almost like a nightclub after 8pm.
Our dinner was tastefully made and delicious. We almost went back to do two nights in a row and honestly, after eating at Frank & Albert's instead, I pretty much wish we had eaten at The Mission two nights in a row.
Superb.
