| - So, 2.5 years after my first review, I have decided it's time to write another one. I still go to Tatum Smiles for everything. I could not even tell you how much I love these guys! Dr. Spine is a fantastic dentist, Melissa is a fantastic hygienist, Jessica is a wonderful all-things-office lady. I know everyone there, and every time I go in they ask about my mom, my other half, my job, etc.
A few of the things I love about them....
- FLEXIBLE! My other half travels internationally for his job 70+% of the time, and I never know when he is coming or going. If he called me in 5 minutes and said he had to leave for China tonight and would be back in a month or two, this would be normal. This makes it challenging to schedule his appointments, but not at Tatum Smiles... I make his appointments, and we often have to push them out. When I know he is flying in, I call them and they fit him in somewhere. Dr. Spine even skipped lunch for him last time. I've cancelled him last minute a few times, and they didn't charge me a fee or act like the world was ending. They are always happy to work with him, and we always figure something out.
- CUSTOMIZED! They are realistic and provide customized care based on your unique situation. They got to know me quickly and don't lecture me about flossing every day, because we all know that's just never going to happen. Instead, they offer me personalized options... like using Glide floss to minimize how hard it is to floss in my tight teeth, recommending a SonicCare brush to me, suggesting I get an additional cleaning each year, that I use those disposable flosser things to make it quick/more convenient, etc. This is important... the dentist used to be this negative thing I absolutely DREADED (and avoided). Now, since I'm not getting lectured or wasting time hearing about ideals that I'm not going to do, it's much more positive. I actually enjoy going, and have improved my oral health because they offer things I will actually do. They don't expect you to be perfect, they want you to be as good as is realistically possible.
- OPTIONS FOR EVERYONE, sensitive to your financial situation! When I first went there, I was cheap and didn't have cash lying around. They had an in-house dental plan and offered access to no interest if paid in full within XX months financing options. You don't have to have perfect credit to get it, either. Plus, my mom (who I wrote about previously) had no dental insurance. They worked with me. They offer various treatment options, including the varying costs of each, to find the best option for you. They don't pressure you. They don't upsell unless there's a very good reason. Now, I have good dental insurance through my work and I can afford it. They work seamlessly/quickly with my insurance, still honor their occasional coupons, and I still use that no interest card (if they want to lend me money for for free, I am all for it!).
Also - the cost estimate they quote is what it costs. They tell me what will and will not be covered by insurance (for instance, I get fluoride during my cleanings, which I pay for myself). No costly surprises. Many docs hide behind the fine print in the stuff you sign, they haven't.
- HONEST, stand by their work! I had a tooth that needed a crown. Dr. Spine didn't think it needed a root canal... I said "hey, the other three molars already have a RC, it will need it eventually and my insurance doesn't precert, just do it." He wanted to be minimally invasive and only did the crown. Well, the crown kicked something up and I had to get a root canal (of course, I totally poked fun at him over this, though he could not have known). The endo elsewhere tore up the crown when doing the RC. Dr. Spine re-made my crown on the CAD machine and replaced it at no cost. It didn't feel quite right, the bite was a bit off and it was kind of elongated. After grinding it down a few times, it was close but still not quite right. He wanted me to be happy and remade it from scratch AGAIN, at no charge. This one is perfect. He OFFERED these... I didn't call him complaining, angry or yelling. I may have poked fun at him, but I didn't ask or demand or even expect it. He wanted me to feel good about the work. As you know, porcelain CAD crowns are pricey... replacing it twice and eating the expense of his own time and materials was very generous and says a lot about who he is.
- JUST GOOD PEOPLE! I have never met anyone in the office that I didn't like. They are great, personable people. No one judges you and makes assumptions. They have a sense of humor and aren't uptight at all (despite a nice office in PV). I've had a few things come up and called Dr. Spine. I never get the whole "you have to come in" schpiel - he listens, asks pertinent questions, and advises where he can... he never acts like I am imposing!
