  • The idea of this show is 3 stars, but the execution is a dead on 5 stars. That evens it out to 4! When I first heard about the show, I was rather skeptical. I mean, how can you really tie together the best songs of a whole bunch of different broadway plays? I love broadway (grew up in NY), but I also know that a lot of the best songs that I remembered were remembered because of the story of the play, and the climactic feel of them. Take them out of the story, and then just go back to back to back...it just sounded like something that was going to be disjointed and boring. Wow, was I impressed with how they did it. The transitions were generally nicely narrated by the main singers, and they put together quite a variety of songs and jokes. The singing, the dancing, the music...it was all top notch. World class performances. I was blown away at how great these performers were. There wasn't one misstep, they nailed every single part of it. It gave you the feeling in some scenes that you were truly watching a Broadway play (especially with the main singer...forgot her name...but she was a show stealer). The biggest problem I had the show was that all of the songs are from old Broadway classics. I'm not sure if this was designed because Mr. Wynn is older and these are his favorites, if the demographic they're targeting is older people, or if they just thought these would be the most well known songs. Many of the songs I could tell what they were from, or had heard them at some point, but not many of them were like a "wow I want to sing along" or anything. I would have loved some newer Broadway excerpts, something like from Wicked. I think this is what will ultimately kill this show. There isn't a huge interest from younger people, and the ones that will be interested will want to see newer more modern Broadway. On that alone I just don't think they'll be able to fill the seats for a long period of time. It's unfortunate because it is just so well done, and the performers are quite frankly breathtaking. Whatever happens though, they will find something else though because they're oozing with talent!
