| - This is a service review only.
When my PT Cruiser convertible was at 33,000 miles (and still under full warranty), I took it to Chapman for an oil change (using a coupon I got from the Chrysler Web site).
As part of my change I was given a multi-point inspection where they "discovered" my car had: failure of the fuel injection system, dirty power steering fluid and dirty automatic transmission fluid ... recommending $814 worth of service. None of which would be covered by warranty, although it was WELL out of the normal servicing window.
{To give you some idea how ludicrous their recommendation is ... According to the Owner's Manual, the transmission fluid needs to be changed at *60K* miles if the car is used as a police vehicle, taxi, limousine or towing a trailer.}
I said "no thanks" and had another dealer look at it later, and then had another look at it. NONE OF THEM FOUND ANYTHING WRONG. Of the 12 Chrysler dealers my car has been to in its (now 60,000 mile) lifetime, only one, Chapman, has found ANYTHING wrong.
To Chapman's credit, the service work they did do was flawless -- then again it should be, it's just an oil change. But their service recommendation is beyond questionable -- I consider it to be fraudulent.
I wrote the CEO of Chrysler to make sure I was still under warranty if I didn't follow the recommendations of Chapman (I was) and I reported them to the Better Business Bureau of Nevada.
I will never use them again. I can't be certain they wouldn't sabotage my vehicle while in the shop just to justify their claims. My recommendation is you don't either.
(If you want to see more details about what happened, search on "continual car." I keep a 'blog about the car to keep my warranty valid ... all the gory details are in there.)
