  • My husband and I dined here on July 1 and were thrilled to see Kerry Simon working in his restaurant that evening. We had tickets to an event at the Palms and decided upon this restaurant as it offered a menu different than the typical contemporary dishes or steak house fare that we can get at home in Houston. The restaurant was situated next to the pool and featured open, contemporary decor. The upscale atmosphere was toned down by the casual converse-styled footware many of the waitstaff work with their black attire. All of the individuals working the house that evening were very accomodating - from the hostess, the somelier (which we didn't order any wine, but he did stop at our table during our meal to check how we were doing), the waiter, and even the guy who continued to fill our water and tea glasses. We started with some great cocktails (as a southern girl, I could not resist passing up the watermelon/strawberry/kiwi margarita concoction) which were followed by crispy shrimp appetizer. Between courses, Chef Simon came by our table to ensure everything was ok (we were not chatty this time). Our main dishes included meatloaf (sounds odd to order in a nice restaurant, but it was cooked excellently - worthy of ordering again!) with truffled potatoes, and lamb tagine, accompanied with spinach and macaroni & cheese. During our meal, we had inquired of the waiter regarding whether Chef Kerry normally worked in this restaurant and he responded that he split his time between the several restaurants in Las Vegas as well as a location in L.A. Shortly thereafter, Chef Simon came to our table to chat about where we were from, what we thought about dinner, how we heard about his restaurant, etc. (I sound like a geek, but was so excited to meet him). We had the creme brulee trio for dessert and Chef Kerry sent out a complimentary bowl of cotton candy. Overall, an excellent and memorable dinner! The only unfortunate thing was that I was so stuffed from all of the food my curiousity left me wondering what the homemade junk food platter ($25 tray with all kinds of homemade goodies - cotton candy, cookies, ding dongs, rice crispy treats, etc.) would have been like. I'll need to find a good excuse to visit again with a larger group just so that we can indulge ourselves!
