| - Visited Genghis Grill for lunch on a Thursday. We had been to a couple other Mongolian grill restaurants elsewhere in the country (loved YC's in Chandler, AZ) and were hoping for something like it to arrive in Charlotte.
We were served promptly and enthusiastically (seemed like the thrill of being a newly opened restaurant motivated the personnel). We were there with my mother-in-law who had never been to a Mongolian grill, so our waitress took us up to the food station and explained the process: You take up the metal bowl you are given, fill it with meat or seafood or tofu, add a bunch of vegies, pick out a sauce (or combo of sauces) and spices, and then take the bowl and sauce dish to the big circular grill and tell them what sort of starch you want (noodles, rice, even tortillas). They grill it up. You can stand and watch or go sit down at your table and they'll bring it to you.
The quality of the meat and vegetables seemed quite good. The meat was not in thinly sliced frozen sheets like it is at other grills I have been to, this meat was in thicker chunks. The sauces were good and there were tasting spoons so you could try them if you wanted. Someone was standing between the two food stations to keep things stocked and clean and to help make suggestions.
I thought the portions were pretty good. Maybe slightly smaller than at YC's, but certainly enough to fill you up. Lunch was $8.99 which seemed fine for what you get. I think dinner was $9.99.
Anyway, I hope the place does well. It was reasonably busy, but not packed, when we were there so there was no long wait. There's also a bar, but we didn't make use of it. They also offer dessert, and our waitress really wanted us to get some, but maybe next time. The atmosphere was comfortable. Nicer than YCs. I will very likely make it a regular lunch spot.
