| - I am just like almost everyone else from Hawaii... this is where locals go when we go to Vegas. I have friends that stay on the strip, Fremont Street, etc... but most of us tend to stay at the Cal or MSS.
I visit 3-4 times a year and bring omiyage to the dealers, cashiers, and even the BConnected CSAs. I am always greeted with a smile and aloha. As the others have said, and in case it's not obvious... this is not the strip. This is not the glitzy, glammy, 21+ somethings, party animals, over the top, bottle service, VIP, Vegas you see in the movies. This is a nice laid back hotel and casino where you can enjoy a relaxed game of craps, blackjack, or whatever... have a drink, and chill with your friends. Aside from the occasional rowdy group of locals at the craps table where a golden arm is on a roll... it's usually pretty quiet. Even when I was there in June, two 10k jackpots were won minutes from each other... there were loud cheers for a few minutes and then it was back to business as usual.
The dealers are the greatest asset to the Cal for me. Whether it was learning a new game or returning to my favorite table game, the dealers are always welcoming and really nice. Last but not least, my favorite cocktail server is by far and away... Tita. Always smiling and very courteous.
I could go on and on, but suffice to say... I enjoy the Cal. It doesn't hurt that the deals from the local travel agency make it very affordable to fly and stay at the Boyd properties. If it's Vegas on a budget you're looking for, then VH is the way to go.
