  • Takara is one of the few Japanese restaurants in Montreal operated by a Japanese chef. I've heard that he goes to the fish market and buys his seafood himself. The first important thing to note about Takara is its location. The entrance is on the 4th floor eventhough they have a sign near the entrance on Peel. The Japanese speaking hostess gave us one of the private rooms where you have to take off your shoes and sit with your legs in a hole. It makes it appear you are sitting on a tatami but it is wayyyyy more comfortable. The sushi is well presented and as fresh as you can get in Montreal. Taste is also authentic. We ordered some fried tofu, miso soup, chawanmucshi (steamed egg), sashimi bowl, some sushi and a fish with soba dish.
