  • I have always had pets and know each one individually inside and out. I recently moved from east side of Las Vegas back to the west side. I have an amazing vet, Dr. Henderson on the east side. but so close to my new location is mauer and I decided to try them out. I recently adopted a special needs dog unadoptable due to extreme fears and not having been socialized. after 3 months she is doing amazingly well! she was attacked by a pit bull the other morning and I rushed her over to mauer to have her checked out. they said they would want to put her under to make sure her wounds were clean and that I could take home antibiotics but if infection would set in she would be in bad shape. they went to the back to write up my estimate and in the meantime I asked if they could trim my other dog's toenails. Now I normally do this but even on his white toenails it is difficult to see the quick. I asked that they do it in the office not caring that they looked at each other and then back at me like I was nuts. so they proceeded. I asked them to leave them longer and not try to get them short. I told them that even the white toenails have a long quick. they didn't listen to a word I said and they cut him. if they can't listen to me and do a toenail clipping, how would I want them to put my special needs puppy under and trust them to do right by her? I left immediately and rushed to Dr. Henderson. I told him they wanted to put her under and he looked at his associate because it was not necessary and would have served only to further traumatize my special needs puppy and make a nice fat profit for them. Dr. Henderson examined her and sent us home with antibiotics and pain meds and to watch her and bring her in at the first sign of anything wrong. they also tipped my other dog's nails. we went home. She is doing fine and did not need anything more than to feel safe again and her medication. I am extremely disappointed at the response of the people at mauer who kept saying, "it happens. it happens." I KNOW it happens, that's why I don't do it myself right now until I can trust myself not to hurt him, and that's why I was very specific to tell them what they needed to know so they would not hurt him. no compassion, no empathy. even though I stopped them after doing only 1 foot they were going to charge me for the nail clipping! I looked at them and said to them on my way out, "don't you have any compassion or care at all that you didn't listen to me about such a simple thing and you hurt my dog?" I heard again, "It happens." I will never go back.
