An hour west of Las Vegas is Spring Mountain range home to the Mt Charleston Wilderness. It's a great summer hangout for hikers and backpackers alike who's looking to escape the heat of the desert. The temperatures are usually 20-25 degrees cooler than Las Vegas.
one of the hike I went today is Mary Jane Falls, it's a 3.0 mile (total = out and back).
After a gradual climb up a forested canyon, switchback up a steep slope and you will see excellent views and Mary Jane Falls. The falls was pretty flowy today as it rained heavily couple of days ago. The flow is heaviest in spring and dwindle to a trickle by summer's end.
The hike is good for dogs and children 6 years old and older.
