| - In an attempt to give perspective, I would liken FSE to Mardi Gras in New Orleans. While Mardi Gras is much more, if you would never attend Mardi Gras, you should probably skip FSE which is likely the meaning behind "What happens in Vegas." If you will go, you must "own" it by being acutely aware of your surroundings, and commanding "presence." Do not go alone. Parents, do NOT bring your children! It is not a place for them and there will be too much explaining to do. And to adult children, I suggest not bringing your parents and/or grandparents as it may become awkward. Dress comfortably - not scantily - and leave your best at home.
It is fun! The best part is it serves as entry to many of the old school casinos you see in the movies. You'll want to see them all and we did, playing slots while passing through. There's a lot going on: street performers, vendors, people behaving badly, small bands, restaurants (high end and otherwise,) free concerts, shops, and light show to name a few. While I didn't have the guts, you can also zipline for an aerial view.
For your first visit, I suggest going before sunset. Streets are one way and parking can be a bit confusing. We ended up leaving our parking garage through an unmarked door (right next to another unmarked door) on the building which is Binion's. Landmark everything in your mind so you can get back. You'll have to cut through a sea of people and it will be dark. An even better idea is to stay at one of the hotels so you can have full run of the place - but these can't compare with the lavish properties on the strip.
FSE can be an onslaught to the senses but I still think it's a Vegas must do - at least once.
Have fun! Be safe! And leave the kids at home!
