| - When I saw this on the map, I just had to make a comment. I spent my whole K-12 educational life within the PVUSD system. And yea, I and many of my friends turned out ok.
But growing up in it we thought we were one of the top districts in the country from the propaganda they had us bringing our parents. Oh yea, we are at the top percentile in this test. Look at us, we just won this award. It sure has helped property values. But when I've compared the things we did and the way we did things with some of my friends in public schools in other parts of the country - I'm really surprised that they won much of anything. Not that PV is bad, because it's not, but there are some REALLY great schools out there.
Now days in the world of private, semi-private, charter and magnate schools and who knows what else out there, all working to make sure no kids are left behind (or at least if they are left behind it looks like it's clearly not their fault, or they are so far behind that they fall of the reportable grid completely) we all need to pay a bit more attention to our schools. Don't immediately believe the PR written hype about the district - go check them out yourselves. Each school is so different you can get a completely different feeling from each one.
Yea, for Phoenix it's still a pretty good school district, but just make sure you really know what you're getting into at each school.
