| - I am a regular Bikram Yogi in Hermosa Beach, CA and was planning a visit to Las Vegas, NV. While in Las Vegas I did not want to miss out on my practice so I began searching out Bikram Yoga studios in the area.
I found a Bikram Yoga studio near my hotel in the Downtown corridor that offered an 'Out-of-Towner' special. The special included 3 classes, 2 towels (each class), 1 mat (each class) & 1 bottle of water (each class) for $70. I knew this was a fantastic deal so I signed up.
Upon arriving at the Downtown corridor studio at 9:00am for the 9:30am class I observed a sign on the door indicating the studio had closed literally the day prior. I was wearing my workout gear and wasn't ready to head back to the Hotel without getting my sweat on.
I called this studio which is located on Wagon Trail (which was 11.2 miles away) and advised them of my situation. I asked when their next class was, I told it started at 9:30am. I am not that familiar with driving around Las Vegas so another staff member quickly got on the phone and gave me great detailed directions to avoid the morning rush hour traffic.
I drove my buttocks off and arrived 5 minutes later for class at 9:35am. The staff knew I was coming had already setup a mat/towel for me in the classroom. The staff working the front desk and who assisted me on the telephone advised the instructor that a late arrival was coming.
I arrived and found parking with no problem. This Bikram Yoga studio is located in an industrial section and parking no matter the class size will never be an issue. I walked into this studio and was quickly setup with a locker in the men's locker room which you could digitally lock your valuables in with punching in a personalized code. After doing so I was escorted to the classroom and my mat for class. Before entering the classroom you are required to take off your shoes/flops and it was nice to see a shoe rack to keep everything nice & tidy, which I like=)
Luckily for me the class being guided through practice by 'Frank' was still in 'standing deep breathing' so I didn't disturb that much, either way I still felt bad for being 'that guy.'
I was surprised at how BIG this classroom was, how many students were taking class & how high the ceilings were. I normally practice in Hermosa Beach, CA in a much smaller classroom, lower ceilings and hence much HOTTER (no joke at times in the 120 degree range) but that did not take away from this class, this instruction, this studio and/or the inner discipline it takes to journey through your practice.
I had a great practice, class was over and now it was time to utilize the facilities I only got a quick glimpse of when rushing to get into class as quickly as possible. I exited the classroom and found separate bins for rented towels, rented mats and even a recycling bin for water bottles on the walk to the locker rooms.
I used the showers which were tiled & extremely clean. The showers were stocked with everything you needed from shampoo to body soap.
After drying off I returned to the front counter/lobby to pay the $70 fee for the services I was already taking advantage of. I thought it was nice that the staff let me into class before taking care of the outstanding balance.
I returned for 2 more classes at 9:30am instructed/guided by 'Kimberly' & again 'Frank.' I found the 2 following classes to be just as good and just as challenging as the 1st class.
If you are traveling with 'non Yogis' (yes they do exist) no worries because this studio has got you covered. This studio is equipped with several large couches, coffee table & television (which at the time of my visit had the Bikram Yoga studio rates) displayed on the screen.
My only complaint with this studio is when doing certain stretching poses both of your feet are positioned off towel and on the carpet (which is a tad slippery, especially with wet feet). I am guessing this is to ensure you are sweating on the towel located directly below your core as well as being able to focus on the one mirrored wall.
My local studio used to have students do this as well and I had a similar complaint. I found during my poses while not having feet on a nonslip towel I felt my feet slowly slipping away from each other and had the fear of doing a full on split. My local studio has changed this practice and I hope this studio follows suit.
Even with the minor complaint if/when I am in Las Vegas again there is no question I will come back here and take advantage of the 'Out-of-Towner' special. If you are a local and looking for something to challenge you mentally, physically & spiritually look no further than this studio. You simply cannot beat 1 year unlimited for the prices they are offering here.
