  • My wife and I enthusiastically recommend Matt Nathanson from 1st Officiant. We were thrilled with how our ceremony turned out, and honestly couldn't believe our luck in finding Matt, as he was a complete stranger to us before we started the process. We decided to have a very small ceremony (just us and our parents) in Arizona, where my folks live. We don't live in Arizona, so we had to locate an officiant remotely. This gave us some pause, as this person was obviously a crucial part of the day. After searching Yelp and a few other sites, we discovered Matt's services and decided to reach out to him. There were several factors that led to our decision to wholeheartedly decide on Matt as our officiant: 1) He's great with people. We talked on the phone, then over Skype, and he was very quick to understand our needs and get who we are as people, and what we wanted out of our wedding ceremony. He is a calming presence, which can mean a lot when planning weddings. Beyond initial conversations, he also goes a long way to get to know you well enough that the ceremony includes many personal touches. My father was stunned at how much Matt seemed to know us, and our parents LOVED the ceremony as well. (It was a big topic for the rest of the day.) 2) He's incredibly well organized and prepared. On his site you can find many samples of actual audio from his previous ceremonies, as well as get a sense of what possible variations of ceremony you can ask for. Furthermore, once we committed to working with Matt, he had us choose from what is effectively a menu of different readings, quotes, vows, etc., so that we could structure the ceremony completely to our tastes. 3) We are not religious, and had a little concern about trying to convey that we wanted a secular ceremony. Part of that was assuaged by seeing how much input we would have into the ceremony itself. But also, right off the bat, we got the sense that Matt is frankly just a really cool guy, which was confirmed repeatedly throughout the process! Thanks again, Matt, for making our day so wonderful!
