| - The worst place I have ever lived. Stay away at all costs.
This was a decent spot when I first moved to Vegas in 2006. Well-maintained, friendly, quiet - the hard-working, living-on-site property managers ran a tight ship and took pride in the place.
In 2008, the ownership and management changed, and the place began to go downhill quickly.
The new management let the property fall into disrepair. They would leave the gate open day and night, which resulted in numerous attempted car thefts, acts of vandalism and disappearing rims. They claimed it was because there was a missing replacement piece for the gate on back-order. For months. BS, the former property manager told me. Those parts are available same day.
They started renting to a much more unsavory element including absentee parents who let their shrieking banshee children run wild in the courtyard at all hours of the night, throwing rocks at windows and harassing the elderly.
There were two incidents where I was directly threatened by other residents, and when I brought it to the property manager's attention, he refused to enforce the rules of the apartment complex against the thugs who chased me into my apartment with a knife, explicitly telling me that he was protecting them because of their ethnicity.
So I filed a police report, broke my lease, and made a housing discrimination complaint with HUD's Fair Housing & Equal Opportunity office.
When it came time to move out, the property manager's harassment escalated, as he turned the sprinklers on my movers as they carried my most fragile and valuable belongings to the truck. It was an absolute outrage.
It used to be that this place lived up to its name. It was a retreat from the surrounding rough area. But now the bad neighborhood has infected The Retreat Apartments too, and its lazy, racist, incompetent management deserves the hellhole they've got now.
I would sooner sleep under a bridge than live here for another day.
